Thank you for your interest in New Mexico Junior College School of Cosmetology. To be considered for enrollment as a student in our programs, please follow the steps for application and consideration listed below.

New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists requires each student obtain a permit for practicing in the State of New Mexico. Students must be at least 17 years of age and have an education equivalent to the completion of the second year in high school and be able to provide verification of this at the time of making application through the link provided below

Applicants should take the following steps in consideration for enrollment into New Mexico Junior College School of Cosmetology:

  1. Complete online New Mexico Junior College Admissions 
  2. Complete online Cosmetology Application – be certain all contact information is correct before submitting application.
  3. Complete and pass the Accuplacer Test.- Schedule exam here ( Required for AAS)
  4. Gather Enrollment Documents- These are needed for enrollment consideration and to be placed in the waitlist order- which is chronologically designed. These requirements include-
    1. Copy of your academic transcript- from most -recently attended institution (an unofficial copy will be accepted).
    2. Copy of government identification- state ID or Driver’s License or Original Birth Certificate will be accepted and copies will be made.
    3. Proof of Completion and passing score of the Accuplacer Exam.

Once you have completed these documentation steps,

      6. Please email jgallegos@nmjc.edu and a department professional will contact you back with additional instructions and to set up an interview time
          and date. (Please wait for a call/ email from our department and be prepared to meet with the Director of the School of Cosmetology for an admissions
          interview and enrollment consideration.)

Upon successfully completing the steps for enrollment and consideration, student will be placed in chronological order on the department’s waitlist, in the students selected scope of instruction. 

Admissions and Registration Credentials will be offered to students, as space permits, every 8 or 16-week session, beginning with the selection of the first student on the waitlist and continuing until all available seats in the upcoming cohort have been filled. Students on the waitlist are guaranteed consideration in the order in which they were placed chronologically on the waitlist.

Remember:
Bring the following with you to the enrollment consideration interview:
