Hobbs, NM — Dec. 1, 2025 — New Mexico Junior College (NMJC) is proud to announce that Steve Sauceda, Vice President of Workforce Development has been appointed to serve on the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Commission on Economic & Workforce Development, one of the most influential national bodies shaping workforce initiatives across community colleges in the United States.

In summer 2024, Sauceda was notified that he had been nominated and appointed to the commission, which is one of nine advisory groups authorized by the AACC Board. Each commission consists of approximately 24 leaders from member institutions; typically CEOs or senior administrators, who provide expertise, guidance, and national perspective on key issues impacting community colleges. Institutional commissioners serve three-year terms and meet twice annually: once in the fall, and again in the spring during the AACC Convention.

"I am proud to have been chosen for this national opportunity; to be recognized for nearly 20 years of contributing to workforce development; and earning a seat at the table to help shape where this important work goes next," said Sauceda.

NMJC leadership also celebrated Sauceda's appointment, recognizing it as both a personal achievement and a reflection of the college’s enduring commitment to workforce development. “Steve Sauceda has been an extraordinary asset to New Mexico Junior College and to our entire region. For nearly 20 years, he has championed workforce development with dedication, vision, and an unwavering commitment to strengthening opportunities for our communities. We are proud to have him represent NMJC as a spokesperson and leader on both the local and national stage, and we deeply value the impact he continues to make, said” Cathy Mitchell, Interim President.

Sauceda’s appointment underscores NMJC’s continued leadership in shaping workforce pathways that align with regional, state, and now, national needs. His contributions at AACC will help inform policy, practice, and innovation that strengthens economic development efforts across the community college sector.
