NMJC Selected for Funding by Department of Energy

New Mexico Junior College (NMJC)'s Digital Field Operations Technician (DFOT) project has been selected for negotiation for $1.9 million in DOE funding. The proposed four-week credential will combine training in SCADA, artificial lift and equipment diagnostics, and networking/radio communications, using XALTER's immersive oil-and-gas simulation technology.
This effort brings together NMJC and our partners at Devon Energy, Mewbourne Oil Company, XALTER, and the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions to develop training aligned with the needs of the Permian Basin energy industry.
Vice President for Workforce Development, Steve Sauceda said, “This is an exciting milestone for New Mexico Junior College and southeastern New Mexico, and I am incredibly proud of what our group of partners have accomplished together. This was truly a collective effort, and this opportunity would not have been possible without the commitment, expertise, and contributions of everyone involved. In less than three weeks, we came together around a shared vision, resulting in NMJC being selected as one of only eight organizations nationwide through this Department of Energy initiative.
The energy industry is evolving, and workforce training must evolve with it. Through this project, we have an opportunity to combine emerging technology with hands-on training to prepare workers for the realities of modern field operations. Just as importantly, this initiative reflects what we believe at NMJC: the strongest workforce programs are built with industry and workforce partners, not in isolation. This is what can happen when education, industry, and workforce partners work together with a common purpose. We have accomplished something special together, and I am excited about the impact we can make for our region and the future of America's energy workforce.”
