Hobbs, NM — The New Mexico Junior College (NMJC) Foundation has received a $15,000 endowed scholarship from the Lea County Sheriff’s Posse to support students pursuing careers in law enforcement and public safety.

“Our members believe in the importance of investing in the next generation of law enforcement professionals who will serve and protect New Mexico,” said Lea County Undersheriff and Sheriff’s Posse Board Member, Michael Walker. “We are proud to establish this endowment at NMJC as a lasting legacy of our organization’s support for our neighbors and future heroes.”

The endowed scholarship will provide ongoing financial assistance to students who have completed at least one semester in NMJC’s Criminal Justice Program, as well as participants attending the NMJC Law Enforcement Academy. By establishing an endowed fund, the Lea County Sheriff’s Posse ensures long-term support for students committed to serving their communities through careers in criminal justice and law enforcement.

“This generous gift reflects the Sheriff’s Posse’s deep commitment to public service and to the education of future law enforcement professionals,” said Director of Donor Engagement & Scholarships for the NMJC Foundation Amanda Baker . “An endowed scholarship like this creates a lasting impact, helping students reduce financial barriers while preparing for careers that are vital to the safety and well-being of our communities.”

The scholarship aligns with NMJC’s mission to provide accessible, high-quality education and workforce training that meets regional and state needs. Graduates of NMJC’s Criminal Justice Program and Law Enforcement Academy go on to serve in law enforcement agencies and related public safety roles across New Mexico and beyond.
