250 Flags from New Mexico

New Mexico Junior College is proud to celebrate Vice President for Workforce Development, Steve Sauceda, on being named one of New Mexico's 250 Flags Honorees, a prestigious recognition honoring individuals whose leadership and service have made a lasting impact across the state.

Throughout his career, Steve has remained committed to expanding educational opportunities, strengthening workforce development, and building meaningful partnerships between education, industry, and the communities we serve. At NMJC, his leadership has helped create innovative career pathways that prepare students for high-demand careers while supporting the economic growth of southeastern New Mexico and beyond.

Steve's selection as one of only 250 honorees from across a state of more than two million residents is a testament to the dedication, vision, and collaborative spirit he brings to his work every day. While he has always approaches his career with a focus on service rather than recognition, this honor reflects the profound difference he has made in the lives of students, employers, and communities throughout New Mexico and Lea County.

Sauceda stated, "I am very grateful to NMOGA & Energizing our Future for the nomination. I don't do what I do in pursuit of awards or recognition, but I'll admit this one means a great deal to me. In a state of more than 2 million people, being selected as one of 250 honorees is both humbling and exciting. More than anything, it reminds me how fortunate I've been to work alongside incredible people -- their encouragement, friendship, and support have played a role in every opportunity I've been fortunate enough to receive. Not bad for a kid from Hobbs."

As an institution, NMJC is grateful for Steve's unwavering commitment to student success and workforce excellence. His leadership continues to advance NMJC's mission of transforming lives of promoting success through learning; in creating opportunities and preparing the next generation of New Mexico's workforce. "Steve Sauceda’s selection as one of New Mexico’s 250 Flags honorees is a well-deserved recognition of his commitment to education, workforce development, and the community. NMJC is proud to celebrate this honor and the positive impact Steve continues to make across our region and state," said Interim President, Cathy Mitchell.

Congratulations, Steve, on this well-deserved recognition! Your Thunderbird family is incredibly proud to celebrate this milestone with you!
