New Mexico Junior College (NMJC) is taking success through learning to another level. As classes begin and students move onto campus, student enrollment continues to climb in the right direction. NMJC, currently celebrating 60 years of providing the Lea County community and surrounding areas with excellent higher education, has grown approximately 9.3% since 2024, with first-time freshmen up by 7.3%.

NMJC has been working diligently to cater to varying needs for a diverse group of incoming students. Now offering new programs such as a Graphic Design Certification and a Farm and Ranch Management Associate of Applied Science Degree. In addition, the college has launched new scholarships that help students cover not only tuition, but also the cost of books and fees. NMJC also continues to welcome students to campus through guided tours and a variety of summer camps focused on academics and athletics.

“A large part of this comes from the support from Lea County Schools and the community, who trust NMJC to provide them with the best education possible. As a recruiter, I have always felt welcomed by the community and am very honored that they trust me to help them find the career path they are looking for.” said NMJC Recruiter, Deira Fernandez. “It is also very rewarding to see all students start their first day, whether they are coming from High School or as part of our non-traditional students.”

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have students on campus and to continue to see more new faces each semester! NMJC has a space for each of you, and we can help you find it.” said Director of Outreach & Engagement, Valerie Onsurez Gauna.

NMJC offers courses throughout the entire semester, and although registration for most courses is closed, there is still time to sign up for the second eight-week courses, which begin on October 13, 2025. The last day to sign up for these courses is Friday, October 10, 2025.

“NMJC’s continued enrollment growth can be attributed to a multitude of factors, including the hard work of our faculty and staff in both recruiting and providing the support students need to succeed and stay on track.” Said NMJC President Cathy Mitchell. “NMJC continues to provide relevant instruction and services to help students achieve their academic and career goals.”

While many colleges nationwide are currently facing a decline in enrollment, NMJC’s growth proves it is more than capable of preparing tomorrow’s leaders.
