Lease Operator Training

The 10 day Lease Operator course combines classroom and on-     site training in basic Lease Operator responsibilities and  skills.                                                       

The training includes:

  • Day 1- Introduction to Tanks:                                                                                                                                            Tank Components, Tank Strapping, Tank Gauging, Measuring Oil                                                                              Purpose: Builds core understanding of how tanks function and why accurate measurement matters.
  • Day 2- Tank Operations:                                                                                                                                                      Tank Thieving, Recirculating Tanks, Selling/ Transferring Oil                                                                                          Purpose: Teaches safe, precise handling and preparation of oil for sale. 
  • Day 3- Safety Certifications:                                                                                                                                               H2S Awareness, Safeland                                                                                                                                                      Purpose: Provides essential certifications required for field readiness from a reputable Safety Company. 
  • Day 4- Wellhead Operations I:                                                                                                                                          Wellhead types, Gas Lift, Plunger Lift, Beam Pumps, Troubleshooting wellhead problems                                      Purpose: Introduces wellhead systems and how to identify common issues.
  • Day 5- Wellhead Operations II:                                                                                                                                          Advanced troubleshooting, Automation Concepts, Repacking a Stuffing Box                                                            Purpose: Strengthens problem-solving while introducing basic field automation, Operator responsibilities.
  • Day 6- Production Flows & Equipment:                                                                                                                           Flow from wellhead to battery, Murphy Pressure Switch, Separation equipment, Gas Sales Meter          Purpose: Explains how oil and gas move through the system and the role of key equipment.
  • Day 7- Resume Building:                                                                                                                                                    Resume workshop with Student Success Advisors                                                                                                          Purpose: Helps students build a resume tailored to the oil and gas industry and helps present their skills confidently to employers.
  • Day 8- Mock Interviews:                                                                                                                                                      Industry partner interviews, Feedback and Coaching                                                                                                      Purpose: Builds real-world communication and job-readiness skills.
  • Day 9- Kimray Valve & Field Concepts:                                                                                                                           Kimray Valve Repair, Shooting Fluid Levels, Chemical functions/rate measurement                                               Purpose: Applies hands-on troubleshooting and reinforces production-stability concepts.
  • Day 10- Final Testing:                                                                                                                                                           End of Course Assessment                                                                                                                                                    Purpose: Measures mastery of all training skills and knowledge.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 

During the location training, each skill is explained, demonstrated, and then the student is evaluated on his/her ability to safely and correctly complete the skill.

At the end of the course, a three part test (flows, math, general knowledge) is administered with a minimum score of 80% required to complete the course and earn a Certificate of Completion.  

Lease Operator Training:  $2,000

(covers 80% of tuition) (Must Complete and Email to dharmon@nmjc.edu before registering)

10 day class is Monday through Friday, 7:30AM to 5PM, for 2 weeks.

  Note:  At this time, no space is available in NMJC Housing.

Note:  You must be at least 18 to attend this training.  You must be able to read, write,      and understand English.

 Screening prior to registration:  Potential employers consider these a plus when hiring Lease Operators: basic computer skills, good driving record, clean background check, basic math skills, physically fit, mechanical skills, local roots, high level of integrity, good work history, drug free, safe work attitude, outdoor mentality, HS diploma or equivalent.
