NMJC Professor Alison Ollinger-Riefstahl, who teaches History and Government, and Hobbs teacher Kristopher Otto, who teachers high school English, will talk about their summer trip to Uzbekistan, as Fulbright Fellows.
Uzbekistan is a Central Asian nation and former Soviet republic. It's known for its mosques, mausoleums and other sites linked to the Silk Road, the ancient trade route between China and the Mediterranean. Samarkand, a major city on the route, contains a landmark of Islamic architecture: the Registan, a plaza bordered by 3 ornate, mosaic-covered religious schools dating to the 15th and 17th centuries.
The Fullbright Program was signed into law in 1946, to promote international good will through the exchange of students in the fields of education, culture and science. It is the flagship international educatioal exhcnage program sponsored by the U. S. Goverment.
Don't miss the fascinating talk about this breathtakingly beautiful country. Admission is free.
