Biography

I love mathematics because it feels like a puzzle. It may take patience and several attempts, but there is a solution to be found—and there is nothing better than the feeling of finally figuring it out. As a professor, I especially enjoy helping students overcome math anxiety and experience their own “math wins.” I want my classroom to feel like a conversation where students are comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning together.

I have taught mathematics from junior high through college, including linear algebra and differential equations. Calculus is my favorite subject, but I also enjoy teaching survey courses and helping students see the real-world connections to mathematics.

Outside the classroom, I am married to a theology professor, and we have five daughters. I homeschooled our girls for many years, so I have plenty of experience working with people who don’t naturally love math! I enjoy reading, hiking in the mountains, and serving as my church’s Children’s and Preschool Director.
