NMJC’s Testing Center is located on the first floor of the Ben Alexander Student Learning Center, Room 140. The telephone number is (575) 492-2591.
With the exception of holiday weekends, operational hours are as follows:
|Monday – Thursday||7:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.|
|Friday||7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.|
|Saturday||10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.|
When we do not have classes scheduled on campus (between sessions, for example) the hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (no Saturdays).
The Testing Center, which is under the direction of Phillip Roybal, Vice-President for Student Services, offers a variety of services that are available to students, faculty, and the community. The vast majority of usage comes from the NMJC faculty. In addition to classroom exams, the Testing Center administers the Pre-GED exams, the Compass Assessment test, and the ASSET exam (which is used primarily for high school students seeking to enroll in “Dual Enrollment Classes”). The Testing Center also administers exams occasionally for the community and other organizations.
With so many students taking online (Internet) classes from other colleges and universities, the Testing Center is getting more and more requests from students asking to monitor their exams. There is a small fee for this particular service.
Any student taking an exam in the Testing Center is required to provide a picture ID. Electronic devices are not allowed in the testing area. There are no exceptions.
Surveillance cameras are used in the Testing Center to detect cheating or any irregularities when students are taking exams. The cameras are consistently monitored from the proctor’s desk. To ensure the security of all exams received, the Testing Center strictly maintains these documents under lock and key in a restricted area.
