NMJC Theatre Department to Perform Award-Winning Play
2/13/2007 4:25:48 p.m. - Hobbs, NM. On February 22-25, the New Mexico Junior College Theatre Department will present David Auburn's highly acclaimed play Proof, which received a Tony Award for Best New Play of 2001, as well as a Pulitzer Prize and numerous other awards.
Proof is the spellbinding story of a brilliant mathematician and university professor whose genius gradually spirals into madness and finally death. Left behind are two very different daughters, one of whom fears that she shares her father's tendency to genius -- and madness. When a former student comes to their home to search their father's rambling journals for his legendary mathematical proofs, what he discovers instead brings to light a buried family secret. Tender, funny, frightening, and revealing, this is a play about love, hate, and reconciliation. This is a play about people who are in search of proof.
According to John Rice, Director of the Theatre Department at NMJC, the spring production of Proof will be presented at 8 p.m. on the evenings of February 22, 23, and 24. A Sunday afternoon matinee at 2 p.m. will be presented on February 25. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors. For more information or to make reservations, call 575.392.4510.
