NMJC Foundation Golf Tournament Huge Success!

The New Mexico Junior College Foundation Golf Tournament was held June 12-13 at the Hobbs Country Club. The weekend was deemed a huge success and filled with firsts. Participating in the tournament were many familiar faces and generous sponsors who have participated in the event for the past eleven years. There were 28 two-person teams competing in four flights. Each flight was awarded $2,000 in merchandise from the Hobbs Country Club Pro Shop.

Allen Barnard shot the first hole in one in the tournament’s history on the 17th hole and received a $500 Visa gift card sponsored by Watson Truck & Supply. It was witnessed by Randy Cothren, Ben Jaime, and Ramiro Rodriquez. Another tournament first was the hail storm on Saturday. It caught the final six players on the course; however, it did not deter their rounds. NMJC Foundation Administrative Secretary, Kim Latimer commented “Both of these occurrences will be great stories to tell at future tournaments.”

The success of the tournament came with over $40,000 in sponsorships for the NMJC Foundation from 97 different businesses and individuals. The sponsorships ranged from $100 to $1,500. The tournament has always been the biggest fund and friend raiser for the NMJC Foundation and this year was no exception. Vince Del Brocco, Manager and Pro at the Hobbs Country Club, was instrumental in helping the tournament run smoothly.

Debra Hicks, incoming President of the NMJC Foundation and Tournament Chairperson, commented “Competition was tough on the golf course this year for the NMJC Foundation Golf Tournament. We appreciate all participants for their support and donors for their continued generosity.”

The new Jim and Janice Spence Championship Cup trophy will proudly host the 2010 First Flight winners. It will be displayed on the campus of NMJC and a plaque will be hung at Hobbs Country Club.
