NMJC Holds Pinning Ceremony for Nursing Graduates

On Thursday, May 6, the 19 graduates of New Mexico Junior College’s nursing program were pinned in a ceremony which recognized them as graduate nurses in the State of New Mexico. The ceremony aired live on USCable Channel 19.

The students were escorted in by nursing professors Kim Chila and Cheryl Lang.  Nursing professors Shelly Busby, Candida Smedley, Kelli McCall, and Donnie Hayes pinned the graduates and Professor of Nursing Kim Chila presented them with their certificates. In attendance was Nursing professor Marlena Bushway, whose online nursing classes will begin summer 2010 and whose students will soon join the traditional nursing graduates.

The pinning was held on the first day of National Nurses Week.  To commemorate their first day as a nurse and to welcome them into the profession, Delores Thompson, Director of Nursing, also presented each student with a pin which read “Nurses…together we touch lives forever.”

NMJC nursing graduates of the Class of 2010 are as follows:  Cammie J. Armstrong, Dawn Bliss, Charlet K. Bradshaw, Stacia L. Cain, Margie Katherine Cottingham, Melodiane Cross, Jackie R. Cupples, Jennifer Ferguson, Stacy Nicole Gonzalez, Kimberly Maxwell Johnston, Amy Desiree Kinabrew, Mary Loeppky, Lisa Gaynell Owens, Patty M. Shepard, Laura Smith, Rachael Smith-Taylor, Randolph A. Trujillo, Jeanie Whatley, and Lisa J. Yocom.

Delores Thompson, Director of the nursing program, was quoted as saying, “As the faculty and I look out at the graduate nurses of 2010, we are filled with hope for a generation of strong, intelligent, knowledgeable, responsible, professional, and caring nurses.  Although the future of healthcare may be unclear now, we are confident that the Class of 2010 will rise to meet the challenges, no matter what lies ahead.  We are very proud of each of you and we are honored to have been your teachers and program administrator.”
