Moran Lecture Series to Feature Jimmy Cabrera
10/12/2009 12:07:31 p.m. - Hobbs, NM. New Mexico Junior College and County Education In-Service will feature international motivational speaker, educator, and author Jimmy Cabrera as the 2009 Moran Lecture Series keynote speaker on Thursday, November 5, from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. at Tydings Auditorium on the Hobbs High School campus.
Cabrera, whose energetic presentations have captivated audiences around the world, has been named one of the top Hispanic motivational speakers in the nation. Utilizing his own unique blend of creativity, humor, motivation, and education, Jimmy provides practical tips and techniques that not only inspire but can also be implemented immediately.
Drawing on tough lessons learned early in life, Cabrera shares positive and uplifting ways to define and find personal success. His new book, What’s in Your Backpack: Packing for Success in Life, outlines eight of the most powerful success tools anyone can apply to his or her life—regardless of personal definitions of “success.”
Reared in a predominantly segregated community in north Texas, Cabrera felt that only his parents genuinely cared for him. He relates that the system simply did not challenge him to be expressive nor think about setting goals. Instead, he insists, he felt only a bitter rejection and prejudice from a society that labeled him “different.” Eventually he realized that only he could overcome the damaged emotions and turn the negatives into positive learning experiences.
Today, Cabrera, who is described as “articulate, enthusiastic, and frequently on-the-edge,” now shares the powerful yet simple secret of his life philosophy: “Don’t count what you have, but what you have given – that total equals your success.”
The Moran Lecture Series is free of charge and open to the public.
