NMJC Student Nurses Give to Elderly
12/22/2006 11:36:49 a.m. - Hobbs, NM. The Student Nurses Association at New Mexico Junior College delivered 110 Christmas gift bags to the residents of Hobbs Health Care on Friday, December 22, 2006.
The gift bags were filled with useful items such as hanging bed pockets, socks, chapstick, lotion, toothbrushes, and several items geared towards the male or female gender. The gift bags were purchased in part by SNA funds and by the students themselves, who decided to pitch in some of their own money to extend their efforts.
Cody Davis, Vice President of SNA, came up with the idea to deliver the gift bags to Hobbs Health Care. "The facility allows us to do a lot of our clinicals there, and we thought this would be a good way for us to do something nice for the residents."
Another SNA member, Holly Dean, explained, "We asked ourselves if we were in this facility, what would we like to receive. The gift bags were what we came up with." Rene Reynolds, SNA member, further elaborates, "It makes us happy to do this! Often times during the holidays, the elderly that are in need are overlooked."
