Online Tutoring Available to NMJC Students

Online Tutoring Available to NMJC Students photo 9/15/2008 3:58:40 p.m. - Hobbs, NM. Having trouble with a math problem? Need some help with ideas for an essay? Or just need someone to look over a paper before you turn it in? New Mexico Junior College has a great solution for its students - SmarThinking online tutoring.

With SmarThinking, NMJC students can go to and login using their student ID as the username and NMJC as the password. Once inside, a user can contact with a live tutor, an "e-structor," who can help with math problems, science questions, history inquiries, and more! Alternately, the student may submit an essay to the Online Writing Lab, and a tutor will get back to them with helpful corrections and suggestions, usually within 24 hours.

NMJC students have 15 hours of tutoring (with a 12-essay limit) available to them to use over 1 year. These 15 hours are provided to students free of charge, although students may purchase more time should they need it.

"This is such an innovative way to give students the help they need, when they need it," said WebCT Administrator Charles Adams. "By supplying tutoring at the moment the student has difficulty, the more likely the student is to succeed with the material."

For more information, please contact Adams at (575) 492-2647.
