NMJC Leaves Crowd Thunderstruck at JUCO World Series photo 6/5/2007 4:17:49 p.m. - Hobbs, NM. In their second appearance in three years, the New Mexico Junior College Thunderbird baseball team battled at the 50th Annual JUCO World Series to finish as tournament runners-up.

NMJC earned a birth to the championship game on Saturday after defeating Young Harris 14-12, losing to Western Nevada 4-8, beating Cowley County 12-9, overcoming Western Nevada 11-1, and upsetting San Jacinto 10-9.

As the Thunderbirds battled Chipola College in the championship game of the World Series, they came up short due to only five hits and one stellar performance by Chipola pitcher Ryan Chaffee.

Going into the tournament ranked #1 in the nation, the Thunderbirds left the crowds in Grand Junction, CO, "Thunderstruck," an AC DC song the team listened to on every bus ride to Suplizio Field, as the T-Birds finished the tournament with everything left on the field, classily.

Four NMJC players were named to the JUCO All-Tournament Team: infield, Kevin Atkinson; outfield, Brian Cavasos-Galvez; catcher, Luis Cruz; and pitcher, J.R. Robinson.
