One Million Dollar Prize Possible for Hole In One

5/30/2017 9:31:49 a.m. - Hobbs, NM.

New Mexico Junior College Foundation is sponsoring their 18th annual golf tournament, Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11, at Rockwind Community Links, with a special event: the chance to win $1 million in a hole-in-one contest.

“We wanted to offer something unique for Lea County,” said David Whitten, NMJC Foundation board member and chair of the golf tournament. “We talked to Permian Auto Group, and they agreed to sponsor the hole-in-one, for the chance to win one million dollars.  Only five golfers will qualify for this opportunity.”

To be one of the five qualifying participants, golfers must register for the Foundation’s golf tournament and play in the two-day event.  The five closest to the pin on one of the designated holes will have the chance to compete for the hole-in-one. “We truly hope someone wins and gets the million dollars,” said Whitten.

The golf tournament helps fund scholarships for students, and provides financial support for NMJC programs. Approximately $2,362,000 in Foundation scholarships and foundation work-study assistance have been awarded to NMJC students.

The tournament will have a shotgun start at 8:00am both Saturday and Sunday, limited to the first 60

two-person teams.  Breakfast and lunch are provided both days from Rockwind Grill.  Team fees for the two-person teams are $400, and teams are flighted after the first round.   Saturday begins with a two-person Scramble, and Sunday features a two-person Best Ball (select drive).  Prizes are available for the Longest-Drive and Closest-to-the-Pin.  All golfers have a chance for a hole in one opportunity to win an automobile valued at $50,000, and five qualifying golfers will have the chance to win $1 million. Mulligans will also be available.

“This golf tournament is a major fundraiser to provide scholarships and assistance for students to go to college…something they may never have the chance to do without the financial assistance they receive from the Foundation,” states Whitten.
