TBirds to Compete at San Antonio Rodeo

Five NMJC Thunderbird Rodeo student-athletes will compete at the San Antonio Rodeo against competitive athletes from college rodeo teams in the Southern and Southwest Regions. The College Rodeo Showdown is Sunday, February 12, at 4:00pm at the Expo Hall in San Antonio, Texas.
The five TBirds and their events are Ed Beardsworth, steer wrestling; Preston Burr, saddle bronc and heeling with James Reed (heading) in the team roping; Tyce McLeod, tie-down roping; and Megan Powell, breakaway roping.
“We are proud to have these student-athletes represent NMJC against some of the best in college rodeo,” states Deron Clark, athletic director for New Mexico Junior College. “NMJC is ranked third in the Southwest region of the NIRA (National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association). Our students will do well against their peers.”
Contestants will be competing for added-money and awards for All-Around Male and Female Athletes, and All-Around Male and Female Teams.
The College Rodeo Showdown features all events in professional rodeo, including calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing, breakaway roping, goat tying, bareback, saddle bronc and bull riding. The event will also feature a Ranch Rodeo Throwdown between Texas A&M and Texas Tech University.
