Two NMJC Student-Athletes Sign with Division 1 Universities

Two NMJC Student-Athletes Sign with Division 1 Universities photo 4/15/2016 10:03:38 a.m. - Hobbs, NM.  

Two New Mexico Junior College Track and Field student-athletes have signed their letters of intent with Division I universities.

Jahneya Mitchell, the 600 meter and 4x400 meter NJCAA Indoor National Champion and eight time All-American, signed with Purdue University.  Mitchell is from Philadelphia, PA.

Quadaisha Newkirk, the NJCAA 4x400 meter Indoor National, 400 meter National Runner-up and the eight time All-American, signed with University of Pittsburgh.  Newkirk is also from Philadelphia, PA.

The Thunderbirds Track and Field team is ranked second in the country by the U. S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The team is only 13 points behind the leader, Central Arizona.  They will compete at the National Outdoor Track and Field championships May 17 – 19, in Levelland, TX.

Both Mitchell and Newkirk have qualified for the National meet.
