Cowboy Hall of Fame Hosts Barbecue Dinner at Fair

The Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame will sponsor a barbecue dinner at the 2015 Lea County Fair to honor the families of those persons chosen by the fair as this year’s honorees. The dinner will take place on Thursday, August 6, prior to the rodeo, and will honor the family and friends of deceased Lea County residents Pat Lee, L.D. Patman, Kenneth Smith, D’Edward Huerta, and Tom Pierce. The dinner will also honor this year’s “honorees” Stephanie Rice and Lyn Branson Edwards.
“We are pleased to join Lea County as it honors these outstanding individuals and their families,” said Dr. Darrell Beauchamp, Executive Director of the Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame on the campus of New Mexico Junior College.
Beauchamp noted that the idea to sponsor a barbecue dinner to honor the families came during a discussion with several of the Museum’s Hall of Fame board members. “We were all wanting to find a better way to be more active at the Fair; a way to do more for our community.”
Cowboy Hall of Fame Board Chairman C.J. Kinsolving added that the barbecue seemed like a natural fit for his group. “We all love to eat and socialize. Providing that opportunity to the families of the honorees seems like the perfect solution, and we’re honored to do it.”
The Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame was founded in 1978 as a way to honor those people who have been important to the ranching, rodeo and livestock industry in Lea County.
