Family Fun Days at the Museum Saturday March 29

The Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame invites the community to its monthly Family Fun Days Saturday, March 29 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm, in conjunction with its blockbuster exhibit “Bigger Than T.Rex”. Admission is free for the entire family.
Special guest speaker, Dr. Spencer G. Lucas, Curator of Paleontology at New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science, will discuss dinosaurs from various eras at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Dr. Lucas specializes in the study of late Paleozoic, Mesozoic and early Cenozoic vertebrate fossils and continental deposits, particularly in the American Southwest. He received a Ph. D. in geology from Yale University and has been the Curator of Geology and Paleontology at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science since 1988. While there, he has curated several exhibits including “Dawn of the Dinosaurs,” “Age of Super Giants,” and “New Mexico’s Seacoast”.
Dr. Lucas has extensive field experience in the western United States as well as in northern Mexico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Soviet Georgia and the People's Republic of China. He has published more than 500 scientific articles and co-edited 14 books. His three books, The Age of Dinosaurs in New Mexico, Triassic New Mexico: Dawn of the Dinosaurs; and Traces of a Permian Seacoast, are available for purchase in the Museum Store.
Besides the lectures, the film “Walking with Dinosaurs: Allosaurus” will be featured in the theater. Families can also
create their own dinosaur masterpieces throughout the day, dig for fossils, and wander through the “Bigger Than T.Rex” exhibit. All activities and the exhibit are free.
Family Fun Days have been very popular with over 1,000 people attending each of the previous events. The Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame is located on the campus of New Mexico Junior College.
