NMJC Golf Finishes Second in Home Tournament
3/9/2007 9:28:56 a.m. - Hobbs, NM. The New Mexico Junior College golf team finished second place in the Ronnie Black Collegiate Invitational held March 5 & 6, at the Lovington Country Club & Ocotillo Golf Courses.
The Thunderbirds finished six strokes behind tournament winner Midland Community College.
NMJC golf team shot 300-279-293, with an overall score of 872 from the three-round event. Midland College finished with 290-292-284, making 866 their composite score. Western Texas College, College of the Southwest, and Frank Phillips College rounded out the top five slots with 905, 909, and 909, respectively.
T-Bird golfer Sebastian Gunnarsson, a sophomore from Jonkoping, Sweden, finished second in the individual standings shooting a 71-70-73, with an overall 214. Bryan Hackenberg, a freshman from Thornton, Colorado, tied for fourth place in the individual standings, shooting a 76-69-72, making 217 his overall score.
Johan Linden, Nathan McMullen, and Timothy Freres also contributed to the second-place team finish. Additional golfers Kevin Cartwright, Jordan Moore, and Devin DeBay played individually in the tournament.
