Purpose of the Ambassadors Program
The Campus Ambassadors Program at New Mexico Junior College seeks to provide opportunities for outstanding students to develop leadership and communication skills through involvement in student recruitment and community relations activities at the college. Campus Ambassadors also assist with new student recruitment activities, serve as campus tour guides for prospective students and special guests of the college, and represent the student body at official functions.
Membership in the Campus Ambassador Program shall be based on a selection process.
Students seeking consideration for the Campus Ambassadors Program must meet the following general eligibility requirements:
- Enroll at NMJC as a student.
- Possess a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Demonstrate leadership potential at New Mexico Junior College or high school.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
- Must complete a current FAFSA form.
Students who are nominated or wish to apply for the Campus Ambassadors Program will be asked to complete a program application for further consideration. Upon submitting a completed application, applicants will be required to participate in an interview process with a screening committee.
Students will be critiqued on grades, knowledge of NMJC, personality, communications skills, appearance, extracurricular involvement, and demonstrated leadership potential. The committee or advisor will select a group of finalists who will be invited to participate in the final phase of the selection process. Finalists may also be asked to demonstrate their knowledge of NMJC in the form of a public speaking exercise.
Based on the finalists’ performance, the selection committee or advisor will choose those individuals who will be recommended to the Student Recruiter for membership in the program.
During their tenure in the program, Campus Ambassadors will be required to enroll as full-time students, maintain a 2.5 or higher grade point average, participate in required activities, maintain appropriate conduct, not be involved in any disciplinary actions, and participate in periodic training and leadership development activities.
Campus Ambassadors will be asked to sign a contract, which specifies their responsibilities and the expectations for the position. Failure to satisfactorily fulfill any of the expected duties and responsibilities may result in expulsion from the program.
