Home > Community > GED > Steps in Taking the GED Tests
1. The candidate should sign up Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM with the ABE (Adult Basic Education) Department to take the GED Pretest.(Sign up in room 205 of the Ben Alexander Student Learning Center on the campus of New Mexico Junior College) If the candidate is 16 or 17 years old, they will be required by state law to complete an Underage Permission Form and have is signed by an authorized Superintendent or they can’t test.)
2. After signing up, the candidate will be sent to the Testing Center, room 140 of the Ben Alexander Student Learning Center, to take the 4 hour GED Pre-Test.
3. After taking the test, the candidate will be asked to go back to room 205 for an evaluation of the test they have just taken. If the candidate did well on the pretest, they will be signed up for the next available Official GED Test.
4. If the candidate is ready for the Official Test, they will be given a packet that shows what they need to do to register on-line. Before taking the official test, the candidate needs to:
Read all of the information in the packet
Watch the math videos
Fill out and return the required Waiver Form and 3 Year Acknowledgement
Pay the required $ 50.00 for the battery of tests. (bring your receipt back to room 205, return the Waiver Form and 3 Year Acknowledgement Form also. )
5. The day of testing, show up at 8:15 AM. The test will begin promptly at 8:30 AM. You are required to have 2 forms of Identification to test. (NM Driver’s License and Social Security Card, If you do not have your 2 forms of Identification, you can not test.)
