| NMJC Gets
"Thank You"

I would like to share my success story with the staff and students
of New Mexico Jr. College.
When I returned to college at the age of 38, I knew that I needed
to acquire the skills necessary to obtain a better career. I began
at a smaller college in Arkansas where I started with the most
basic computer classes like Information Processing and Microcomputer
Applications. I soon realized that I had a passion for computers.
In August of 2002, I transferred from Arkansas to New Mexico
Jr. College (NMJC), in order to pursue a degree in Computer Assisted
Drafting (CAD). As I write this, I have completed my one-year
certificate in CAD, with a large amount of help from Mr. Garry
Wilson, who is my advisor, as well as instructor.
In March of 2003, Valor Telecom sent out an advertisement to fill
the position of a Graphics Operator. Mr. Wilson strongly encouraged
me to prepare a resume and apply for the position. After receiving
some helpful hints from Lance Caviness and Randy Johns on preparing
a resume, Mr. Wilson reviewed the final draft and e-mailed it
to Valor for me. I successfully gained the job for Valor and will
begin working for them during the week of finals. The pay scale
is great and the benefits are also.
My sincerest thanks go out to everyone at NMJC who helped me
obtain this position. I want to give a special thanks to the ladies
in Financial Aid, they have been wonderful; Mr. Garry Wilson,
for giving me that extra push to reach out and go for it! I would
also like to thank Charley Carroll and Randy Johns, who were my
bosses at the warehouse – where I obtained work as a student
work-study. Everyone has been wonderful to work for and very supportive
as well.
I would like to thank everyone at NMJC for helping me realize
my potential, and giving me the courage to prepare that resume.
Sincerely,
Myra L. Linville
