101 Things to Consider

This year at Hobbs High School, something wonderfully synergistic occurred. NMJC’s and CSW’s recruiting offices working together, invited juniors and seniors to attend a workshop. This was not just any workshop though. It was one that would help students decide where they wanted to attend college, and take the steps to start the enrollment process. Thus, the workshop was aptly named, “101 Things to Consider When Preparing for College.”

The intention of this workshop is not to sway prospective students towards NMJC or CSW. Personnel from both colleges were there to inform students of what steps they need to start doing in order to be better prepared for entering college. “Especially for those who are first-generation college students. We want to help them by making the transition from high school to college as smooth as possible, no matter where they decide to go,” said Lisa Hardison, NMJC student recruiter.

It may surprise you to know that this was not the first time both colleges have put forth a collaborative effort to do this. They have already performed the workshop for Lovington, and it went so well, that they decided it is a long-term goal to make this a countywide event.

This workshop covered everything: Financial Aid, ACT/SAT Testing, Campus Life,as well as answser any questions students may have had about college in general. Every student that enters college for the first time, especially if they are first-generation, will greatly benefit from this workshop.
