Local Student Wins Honors at Research Conference

Elizabeth “Beth” Myers took first place at Eastern New Mexico University’s 29th Annual Student Research Conference held April 15, 2003 in Portales. Myers, a senior Business Education/Computer Information Systems major at Eastern New Mexico University won in the undergraduate English/Literature division for her paper on Euripides Medea entitled “A Mother’s Love: Medea’s Sacrifice.” Dr. Sue Bennet, Professor of English at New Mexico Junior College assisted by serving as research advisor.

A total of 43 students presented papers at this year’s conference, with top honors being conferred on undergraduate and graduate winners in each category. In order to participate, the student must write an eight to ten page research paper and present that paper in a 10-15 minute presentation at the conference. Students are also required to have a research advisor and to have done extensive research in their topic area.
