| National
Alcohol Screening Day
Have you ever missed a class, can’t remember
what happened the night before, or constantly disappoint loved
ones simply because you’ve had too much to drink? Are you
worried about a roommate’s drinking habits or concerned
about a friend’s binge drinking? Perhaps you know someone
who can’t stop drinking once they start or they’ve
started drinking alone.
Regardless of the situation you face, there is help. In conjunction
with National Alcohol Screening Day in April, the Guidance Center
of Lea County and NMJC offered free and anonymous alcohol education
sessions. A person could have taken a written self-assessment
for alcohol-related problems, asked a certified counselor questions,
or talked to a health professional – all free.
People learned about the difference between alcohol dependence,
alcohol abuse and risky drinking. Additionally, they learned about
the support services offered through the Counseling Center or
how they or a friend can get help. Screenings were held at the
Student Center on the NMJC campus and at the Guidance Center of
Lea County. To be a participant in next year’s annual Alcohol
Screening, call NMJC at 392-5609 or the Guidance Center at 393-3618
for more information.
