COACH’S COMMENTS:
This was probably the toughest meet we will be a part of all year. The greatest factor of the meet was we beat the other Junior Colleges. I was a little disappointed that ENMU beat us since we beat them at WTA&M; but when the scores came out and we had defeated SIPI and EPCC, I was very pleased because we compete in the same region.

We need to keep a positive attitude about our training and continue to improve at the meets. We cannot get discouraged about how we perform against the Big NCAA schools. Our schedule is very tough for a couple reasons: 1) I believe if you want to be the best you must run against the best and thus challenge yourself; and, 2) If a runner can keep the competition in perspective and focus on self-improvement, then we as a team will continue to improve through the season.

This meet was a great experience for us because it allowed NMJC runners the chance to see what it will take to run at the next level. I feel I have a group of young ladies who have the potential to run at a four year school, but they will have to improve on internal toughness in practice as well as races.

Our next meet is Saturday, September 20, 2003, at NMSU. The women’s race is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on the NMSU golf course at I25 and University. I look for another good meet with plenty of competition, and the Lady T-Birds will once again challenge themselves to improve individually and as a team.
