COACH’S
COMMENTS:
This was a great pre-national meet for us. Our ladies learned that in a big
race you cannot ease up for a second or 10 to 15 people will pass you. This
will be a very important lesson for the national meet. I was very pleased with
the entire team’s performance! Almost everyone ran personal best times
on a very tough, hilly course. This was the first meet in three years in which
our top five scoring girls all ran under 22 minutes. Our gap time was finally
under 2 minutes (1:44), which means we packed together well. This is very important
in this sport. Now we need our pack to continue to get faster.
The next 14 days will be critical in our improvement as a team. With an off week coming up, we will be in a 14 day training cycle and every workout will be important. The team has now improved five weeks in a row; and with a little more time to train and fewer races, we should be sitting in good shape when the national meet rolls around.
Our next meet will be at South Plains College on October 18, 2003. The college women’s race is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. (Texas time).
