The new season brings new faces and challenges. I am very excited about the upcoming season after finishing 7th at the National CC meet last year; and, with what I hope pans out as a good recruiting class for this year, I believe NMJC can look for team improvements. Returning from last year’s Cross Country team are Vanessa Marquez, Carmen Diaz, and Amy Petrencik. These three young ladies, along with second semester freshman Becky Zubiate (Becky competed during the indoor and outdoor seasons last spring), have provided the leadership we need.
New freshmen this fall include Rita Ameri from Albuquerque, NM, Ashley Dailey from Bronson, TX, Josephine Jaramillo of Grants, NM, Amanda Montes of Ruidoso, NM, and Jasmine Sanchez of San Antonio, TX. All of these young ladies have great promise and a desire to improve.
For us to reach our personal and team goals, it will be imperative they keep focused on why they are here – to further their education and improve as athletes. With the right mindset, goals, and willingness to work hard everyday, I see the potential for improved team results this year.
The first meet for the Lady T-Birds is set for Friday, September 5th at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, TX. The race will begin at 5:30 PM (CST).
