NMCJ OUTDOOR TRACK
HARRIER REPORT #5
MEET: NMSU Spring Classic
LOCATION: Las Cruces, NM
DATE: 04/03/04
Teams participating: NMJC, NMSU, UTEP, AND UMN
COACH'S SUMMARY
This weekend’s meet looked as if we had just come off a week of spring
break. Our performances were not as good as they were before spring break. When
athletes get out of their normal training routine it is easy to slip in regards
to fitness, it doesn’t take long to begin seeing negative effects of training
days missed. Our effort at the meet was good but our minds were elsewhere. It
takes the combination of mental and physical dedication to perform well and
set new personal records week in and week out, I don’t think these young
ladies were mentally ready to compete.
On the bright side we were able to run a 4 x 100 meter relay due to the fact that Miranda Swearingen and Toni Atherley came out to run after basketball season and spring break. Our hand-offs weren’t very good, yet we were still just over a second from qualifying for the National Outdoor meet. With better stick work we should get real close to that qualifying mark this weekend at A.S.U.
I look for better performances in everyone this weekend as we try to end this semester on a high note.
