NMJC Women's Rodeo Team Runner-up

Roberts Wins Team Roping; Sandoval, Thompson Place

April 8 – Hobbs, NM. New Mexico Junior College women's rodeo team turned in a second-place performance April 6-8 at Frank Phillips College, while individual men and women recorded respectable performances.

Collectively, the cowgirls accumulated 165 points to finish as runner-up to South Plains College with 230 points.

NMJC's Kyle Roberts, partnering with Eastern New Mexico University's Tyrell Flewelling, capitalized in the team roping competition to win first place. The pair came out fourth in the long go with a 7.6, followed by a pack-leading 6.5 in the short go and the top in the average (14.1).

Barrel racer Alicia Sandoval, a freshman from Bloomfield, N.M., placed third in the average with a 33.89. She was fourth in the long go with a 16.91 and third in the short go with a 16.98.

A freshman out of Hobbs, N.M., Cimarron Thompson claimed fifth in the steer wrestling average with an 11.5. He turned in a 4.3 in the long go and a 7.2 in the short go.

Although Kelsi Elkins ran sixth in barrel racing's long and short go (17.02 and 17.12), she placed out of the average with a 34.14. The freshman from Aztec, N.M., started fourth in goat tying with an 8.3 on the long go and 11.1 on the short go, only to place out of the average with a 19.4.
