Thunderbird Rodeo
September 22 — Hobbs, NM. Members of the New Mexico Junior College Rodeo Team participated in the Eastern New Mexico University Rodeo on September 18, 19 and 20, at the ENMU Rodeo Arena. This was the first college rodeo of the season for the Southwest Region of the NIRA.
Ms. Cigi Allen, a sophomore from Lovington, New Mexico, won the Breakaway Roping event by placing eighth in the long go round with a 3.6 second run Friday. Saturday in the short round, she placed first with a 2.7 second run. She also won the average with a time of 6.3 seconds on two head.
Jason Duke, a sophomore from Dallas, Texas, placed second in the long go round with a time of 4.7 seconds, fifth in the short round with a time of 4.6 seconds, and third in the average with a cumulative time of 9.3 seconds on two head.
Coach Philip Berry was very pleased with the start of the NMJC rodeo season. The next rodeo for the Thunderbird Rodeo Team is October 2, 3, and 4 at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas.
