The Vernon College Rodeo

October 13 — Hobbs, NM. On October 9, 10, and 11, the NMJC Rodeo Team participated in the Vernon College Rodeo. NMJC's Cigi Allen, from Lovington, NM, , split 1st and 2nd with a time of 8.0 seconds in the first round of Goat Tying. She placed 6th in the short go with 10.2 seconds, making her average 5th with 18.2 seconds. In the first round Break Away Roping, she placed 5th with a 3.3 second time. She missed her second calf, putting her out of the average.

Tauna Higgins, from Loving, NM, placed 6th in the first round of Break Away Roping with a time of 3.4 seconds. She missed her second calf, which put her out of the average. In the 1st round of the Barrel Race she placed 2nd with a time of 17.46 seconds. In the 2nd go round, she again placed 2nd with a time of 17.74 seconds. Higgins placed 2nd overall with an average of 35.20.

The Women's Rodeo Team placed 3rd overall with 125 points. They followed second place South Plains College, who had 142.5 points, and first place Western Texas College who scored 182.5 points. The Men's Team Champion was Templeton State University with 245 points.
