T-Bird Golfers Win Season Opener
February 13 -- Hobbs, NM. The New Mexico Junior College golf team started the semester off with a great win this past weekend, at the 5th Annual Senator Eddie Lucio Intercollegiate Golf Tournament in Brownsville, Texas.
The Thunderbirds shot an 876 as a whole, 3 shots better than Midland and 17 better than Paris Junior College.
The T-Bird’s top individual golfer, Ben Briscoe, claimed the tournament championship with a 209 over three rounds. NMJC also put two other golfers in the top six. Donnie Dickerson who came in third, shot a 218, and Gareth Jones ended the tournament tied for sixth, posting a 222.
“I was very pleased with the results because the conditions were difficult, especially since it was our first tournament,” said coach James Black.
The T-Birds next play is at the Gaines County College Invitational in Seminole, Texas, Feb. 23-24.
