T-Bird Linksters

September 18-19 — Dodge City, KS. The NMJC Men's Golf team teed off the season at the Conquistador Invitational at Mariah Hills Golf Course located in Dodge City, Kansas. The team placed 5th with a total score of 916 on Sunday.

The T-Birds' normally play better than the score indicated. The high scores were due, because of the strong winds blowing 30 to 40 mph and along with the course which was difficult to play on due to the rough that was grown up and pesky.

Due to the bad conditions, it caused the NMJC players to double and triple bogeys. This didn't help the team make it in the top spots of the tournament. Coach Black is still impressed with the way the team played.

Out of the top five finishers on the T-Birds' team, four were freshmen. There are eleven freshmen out of the seventeen T-Birds'. The leading score for NMJC was Freshman Drew Flores. Flores' final score at his first college tournament was a 223. Flores was just two strokes behind the 5th place score on the all-tournament team. Coach Black was pleased by how Flores played.

The NMJC players will return to the practice links in preparation for the High Country Shootout in Ruidoso on September 28th and 29th. Best of Luck to the T-Birds'.
