@ Andrews Collegiate/Am

Coach James Black
October 5 — Andrews, TX. The New Mexico Junior College Golf Team participated in The Andrews Collegiate/Am Tournament in Andrews, Texas this weekend. This tournament is special for the team due to an unusual format that they really enjoy. Each player is paired with four man amateur team and they play a two low net format the first round. The second round the amateurs are placed in flights and the college players are paired with each other. The tournament raises money for each of the five schools that are invited to participate. This year they expect to donate $1000.00 to each of the five golf programs. Although the Thunderbirds shot the lowest score since coach Black has been at NMJC, they still found themselves five shots behind Odessa College after the first round. The T-Birds had another solid performance on Sunday, but lost ground to the Wranglers, which defended their title from last year. “This team has improved each week, exhibited great attitudes, and is working very hard. I’m looking for better finishes in the future,” stated Black. Two T-birds made the All-Tournament Team: Mikel Martinson with 64; 69 -133 and Gareth Dobson Jones with 65; 70 -135. Troy Coker showed another solid performance with 70-67-137, as did Rollin Wood with 68-71-139. The team will leave on Wednesday to go to the Fall Wrangler Invitational in Odessa.
