10/31/2011 - Hobbs, NM. The New Mexico Junior College men’s basketball team participated in the annual St. Helena Family Fair this past weekend in Hobbs. This is the second year in which the Thunderbirds have volunteered for the Family Fair at St. Helena’s Church. The Family Fair has become a local tradition for families in southeast New Mexico and western Texas, providing an environment for families to enjoy carnival style games, fresh food, athletic competitions and live entertainment.

7/7/2011 - Hobbs, NM. Dequan Hicks, a 6’7’’ forward from Racine, WI, has been invited to participate in the prestigious ‘Mullen’s JC Top 100 Camp’ on July 9th and 10th. The junior college camp in comprised of the top 100 returning sophomore in the country and will take place on the campus of Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO. The camp provides an unparalleled opportunity to compete against the best players in the nation and gain maximum exposure for recruiting.

7/7/2011 - Hobbs, NM. Andrew Morris, a 6’3’’ sophomore guard from Melbourne, Australia, has been selected as an NJCAA Academic All-American. Morris spent the past two seasons at New Mexico Junior College, where he started 22 games and averaged 5.6 points per game.

Little, an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference this past season, signed with the Grizzlies on May 12th.

Cheyenne, WY – The New Mexico Junior College Thunderbirds traveled to Cheyenne, WY this past weekend to compete in the Sleep Inn Classic, hosted by Laramie County Community College. #1 Midland Slips Past Thunderbirds
1/24/2010 - Hobbs, NM. Hobbs, NM - On a night when points were hard to come by, the NMJC men’s basketball lost a highly contested battle, 54-62 to Midland College, the nation’s #1 ranked team. The Thunderbirds held Midland to a season-low 62 points, allowing only 27 in the 2nd half. However, NMJC’s inability to make free throws and hit open shots late in the game, kept the T-Birds from handing Midland their first loss of the season. Playing its third top-20 team in its last four games, the loss dropped NMJC’s record to 14-5 on the season, and 1-2 in the WJCAC Conference.

Clarendon, TX -- Playing its first game since losing a double-overtime thriller to Casper College, the NMJC men’s basketball team defeated former WJCAC conference member Clarendon College 92-74. The T-Birds got off to a sluggish start, trailing 10-19, before putting the pieces together in time to take a 52-43 lead at the half.

12/4/2009 - Hobbs, NM. In the opening game of the Bresnan Thanksgiving Classic in Casper, WY, the New Mexico Junior College men’s basketball team ran past the Little Big Horn Rams 126-61. The Thunderbirds scored a season high 126 points while shooting 57% from the field and dishing out 30 assists. Every player on the Thunderbirds active roster scored in the contest, including six players finishing in double figures.
NMJC men’s basketball ranked 23rd in latest NJCAA poll
11/24/2009 - Hobbs, NM. With the release of the NJCAA division I basketball poll on November 24th, the New Mexico Junior College men’s basketball program appeared in the top 25 rankings for the first time in over a decade. The latest NJCAA poll has the NMJC Thunderbirds ranked 23rd in the nation with a 9-1 record. NMJC’s only loss of the season came to undefeated Cochise College of Arizona, who is currently ranked 8th in the poll.

11/24/2009 - Hobbs, NM. Jerome Moore scored a career high 19 points, and four other Thunderbirds scored in double figures as the Thunderbirds men’s basketball team cruised to a 91-53 win over Lubbock Christian JV at the Caster Activity Center. The win marks the eighth in a row for NMJC, and moves their season record to 9-1.
Thunderbirds men’s basketball gets road win at Ranger
11/21/2009 - Hobbs, NM. The NMJC men’s basketball defeated Ranger College in Ranger, TX Tuesday evening to finish off an exhausting stretch of basketball, with the T-Birds playing nine games in 17 days. After trailing 31-32 at the half, NMJC fought its way to a 70-65 victory over the Region V opponent. The win moves NMJC’s record to 8-1 on the young season, and also gives the Thunderbirds a 2-0 record on the road.

11/19/2009 - Hobbs, NM. The New Mexico Junior College men’s basketball team defeated the Colorado Kings 71-55 to wrap up a perfect three game sweep at the Pepsi Classic in Garden City, KS. Having defeated #15 North Platte CC and Garden City CC on the previous two nights, the Thunderbirds were looking to win their third and final game of the tournament to move their season record to 7-1.

11/19/2009 - Hobbs, NM. On the second night of the Pepsi Classic in Garden City, KS, the NMJC Thunderbirds defeated the host team, Garden City Broncbusters, 59-58 in thrilling fashion. David Mecanovic’s 18 foot running jump shot at the buzzer sealed the 5th win in a row for the T-Birds. The game at Garden City was New Mexico Junior College’s first true road game of the young season.

11/9/2009 - Hobbs, NM. The NMJC Thunderbirds went 2-0 over the weekend at the NMMI Classic in Roswell, NM. The two wins improved the Thunderbirds record to 4-1 on the season, and concluded a frenetic week where the T-Birds played five games in seven days.

11/9/2009 - Hobbs, NM. The New Mexico Junior College men’s basketball team opened the 2009-2010 regular season by hosting the annual Thunderbird Classic at the Caster Activity Center. The Thunderbirds concluded the 2009-2010 three game classic with 2 wins and 1 loss. The three games marked the beginning of the Chris Tifft era at NMJC, as the new head coach was on the sidelines for the first time as a Thunderbird.

NMJC Names New Basketball Head Coach
5/29/2009 - Hobbs, NM. At a press conference on Tuesday, May 26, Chris Tifft was introduced as the new Head Men's Basketball Coach at New Mexico Junior College. Tifft replaces Jimmy Voight, who recently resigned to accept the associate coaching position at University of Louisiana-Monroe. Tifft was approved by the NMJC Board on May 19.
