2004 Baseball
Season Preview
NMJC is very young this season with 22 freshmen, but, a strong nucleus of sophomores will present a club with much potential.
On the mound, Mitch Goins, Sophomore and K.C. Royals draft pick, will be the bell cow. Goins was 10-1 last year for NMJC and could lead NMJC to the title and become the winningest pitcher in NMJC history. Behind Goins are four strong-armed freshmen in John Lujan (94 mph), Matt Averitt (91 mph), Cody Harkcom (90 mph), and Josh Giles (90 mph). NMJC will carry 14 pitchers, any of whom could win a game.
Offensively, NMJC has many young hitters, but the presence of Grant Alexander (.409, 11 homers, 6 triples and 19 doubles last year) and newcomer Logan Parker will provide offensive leadership along with Marquardt and Rodriguez.
NMJC has so many offensive records and an offensive reputation so every pitcher pitches well against the Thunderbirds. Therefore, every hitter must be ready.
Maturity in the young players will be the key to this year with the talent level as good as ever and the pitching staff deep in potential.
