NMJC T-Bird Baseball Team World Series Bound
May 18, 05 — Hobbs, NM. NMJC capped off a stellar NJCAA Region V Tournament on Tuesday, beating the Temple College Leopards, 5-3, to claim the school’s first regional title. More importantly, the win secures the T-Birds a spot in the NJCAA World Series, which begins on May 28 in Grand Junction, Colorado. The T-Birds open the World Series May 29, facing the winner of the Kansas regional tournament, either Hutchinson Community College or Garden City Community College.
Lady T-Birds Win Thunderbird Classic Tournament
November 6 — Hobbs, NM. The Lady T-Birds basketball team won
the Thunderbird Classic with three straight victories.

Sul Ross State University Rodeo
October 2 — Alpine, TX. NMJC's cowgirl, sophomore, Kaily Richardson
(Pampa, Tx) won the women's breakaway roping long go round with the time of
2.5 seconds, but had a no time in the short round. Kaily split seventh/eight
in the goat tying with the time of 8.1 seconds in the long go and was 9.6 seconds
in the short go.

Cross Country @ UTPB Invitational
October 2 — Odessa, TX. Course was very muddy, temperature was
about 68F. We had our best competitive race of the season due to packing up
and finishing that way.

Cross Country @ NM Highlands Jamboree
September 25 — Las Vegas, NM. The New Mexico Junior College
Cross Country Lady T-Birds did an outstanding job this past Saturday, September
25, 2004. The Lady T-Birds ran in the Cowboy Jamboree at New Mexico Highlands
University located in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

T-Bird Linksters
September 18-19 Dodge City, KS. The NMJC Men's Golf team teed
off the season at the Conquistador Invitational at Mariah Hills Golf Course
located in Dodge City, Kansas. The team placed 5th with a total score of 916
on Sunday.

Tauna Higgins Wins All-Around @ Eastern New Mexico University Rodeo
September 18 — Portales, NM. Out of the 17 college rodeo teams
that were competing, New Mexico Junior College did very well. In Team roping,
Kyle Roberts and James Gilliand made the short go with 6.2 seconds. In Barrel
Racing, Holly Brooks won the 1st go with a blistering 17.48 second run, and
won the average with 35.56 seconds.

Cross Country @ Kachina Classic
September 18 — Las Cruces, NM. The New Mexico Jr. College Lady
T-Birds’ Cross Country Team ran at New Mexico State University Kachina
located in Las Cruces, New Mexico Saturday, September 18th, 2004. The Lady T-Birds’
ran very well placing 6th place.

Cross Country @ UNM
September 11 — Albuquerque, NM. This week's race proved to be
tough in several categories. We were at 3,000 ft. higher altitude, we raced
against Div. I schools, and the race was 1,000 m. longer than what we normally
race. The field consisted of teams such as UNM, UTEP, Texas Tech, LSU, and Texas
A & M. We finished 9th in a tough field of 12. We were the only junior College
in the field.

Cross Country @ West Texas A&M
September 3 — Canyon, TX. Our first meet of the season was an
eye opener , especially for our freshmen women. At race time, the temperature
and humidity were much higher than we were anticipating. Since it was the first
race of the season, the girls were anxious and opened up much faster than we
needed to at the beginning. Both Tauna Higgins and Lorraine Villegas led the
field through the early stages of the race. Lorraine (freshman) held on and
was able to finish 12th in a tough field of NAIA and NCAA Div. II teams.

Baseball Head Coah Birmingham Announced to Be Assistant Coach of NJCAA All-Stars in China
July 6 — Hobbs, NM. Ray Birmingham, NMJC Professor, P.E./Head Baseball Coach, has been selected as an Assistant Coach of the NJCAA All-Star Team competing competing in Beijing, China this summer. The team will meet in Millington, Tennessee on July 7 and depart for China on the 11th. They will play a five game series with China and return to the USA on July 20th.
