This course is part I of the Computer Repair and Upgrade course. It is designed to acquire the knowledge and develop the fundamental skills to install, repair, upgrade, configure, troubleshoot, improve, perform basic computer networking, and preventive maintenance of PC's hardware and software. Upon successful completion of both Computer Repair and Upgrade I and II courses, the student will be prepared to attempt to take the Test Out and Comp TIA A+ certification exams.
This course is part I of the Computer Repair and Upgrade course. It is designed to acquire the knowledge and develop the fundamental skills to install, repair, upgrade, configure, troubleshoot, improve, perform basic computer networking, and preventive maintenance of PC’s hardware and software. Upon successful completion of both Computer Repair and Upgrade I and II courses, the student will be prepared to attempt to take the TestOut and CompTIA A+ certification exams. This is a four credit hour course. Students should check with their advisor / counselor for transferability to other institutions.

Students attending New Mexico Junior College will be evaluated according to the following grading scale:
90 - 100% = A 80 - 89% = B 70 - 79% = C 60 - 69% = D 0 - 59% = F

|LABs and Activities - These are both provided by TestOut. These are exercises that help the students develop their technical skills and reinforce their knowledge of the subject.|
|Discussion - The Canvas discussions cover latest technology, tips and tricks for technicians, sharing of learning experiences, reflection, soft skills development, etc. You will be required to either read an article, perform a task, watch a video clip or attend a synchronous discussion via Chat or the discussion board. You are to answer the questions by Wednesday and answer to three (3) of your classmates between Thursday and Monday. A rubric will be used to evaluate your participation.||Project - The project is a hands on activity that the student will perform at home or in another location or a writing activity that requires knowledge application.|
|Practice Exams - The practice exams are provided by Test Out. These are sample questions that are similar to that of the certifications. In order to pass the practice exams, you should score at least an 80%. You should print out the practice exam results for your review at the end of the semester.|
|Final Exam - The Final Exam is composed of the 6 modules. It will be open from 12/10/18 until 12/12/18 to give you plenty of time. You will have to use the Proctorio that will cost you a small fee or if you are a local student, you will have to schedule a time with the NMJC Testing Center. Further instructions will be given as we get closer to the Finals week.|

Go to the New Mexico Junior College T-BirdWeb Portal login page. Please enter your User Identification Number (ID), which is your Banner ID, and your Personal Identification Number (PIN). When finished, click Login.

Response Time Frames: The instructor will respond to student email within 24 hours on weekdays and 48 hours on weekends. Grades for the course will be posted by the end of Friday each week.

Attendance Policy and Participation Expectations
It is expected that you regularly log into class at least three times weekly and check your Canvas mail to ensure you have not missed any changes/updates. Students are expected to complete discussions/quizzes/tests/ assignments before deadlines expire.

The professor is responsible for monitoring and evaluating student conduct and student behavior within the Canvas course. By registering for this class, the student is assumed to have entered into an agreement with New Mexico Junior College and the professor to log into the class regularly and to behave in an appropriate manner at all times. Disruptive behavior may result in the student being removed from the class and dropped for the semester. Free tutoring services are available to all NMJC students through Brainfuse and the Academic Success Center located at the Pannell Library on the 1st floor.
The instructor has the right to drop any student who has failed to log on to Canvas for two weeks or more, but it is not guaranteed that the instructor will drop you. If the student chooses to stop attending a class, he/she should withdraw from the class by accessing your student account in the T-Bird Web Portal at www.nmjc.edu, or submitting the required paperwork to the Registrar’s Office by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. Failure to withdraw yourself from a course by this date may result in your receiving an “F” in the course. All students are encouraged to discuss their class status with the professor prior to withdrawing from the class.
