Financial Aid

State of New Mexico Financial Aid Programs

New Mexico Student Incentive Grant (NMSIG)

The New Mexico Student Incentive Grant (NMSIG) is available for students who demonstrate substantial financial need. Funds are awarded according to lowest EFC and highest need. All eligible students who have completed their financial aid file will be considered for this award.

New Mexico Work Study

The New Mexico Work Study Program provides employment opportunities for students. Because a portion of these funds must be awarded to need-based students, a FAFSA and a work study application must be submitted to the Financial Aid Office by the student to be considered for this program, and the funds will be considered a resource for awarding purposes. The student will earn the current Federal Minimum Wage rate per hour and normally will not work in excess of twenty hours per week. Students are paid twice a month and payroll checks are distributed through the Business Office during regular business hours. Students are interviewed and hired by departmental representatives. Should a student receive aid subsequent to their employment at NMJC, they may be terminated at any time to avoid an overaward situation. A student may also be terminated for non-attendance or non-performance of job duties.

New Mexico Scholarships

The New Mexico Scholars Scholarship is available to current high school graduates who are in the top 5% of their class (or score at least a 25 on the ACT, or a 1020 on the SAT), are a U.S. citizen, and have a combined adjusted gross income of $30,000 or less.

The New Mexico Success Scholarship is available to students who enter college in the next regular semester following high school graduation (or successful completion of the GED test), and maintain full-time status and a 2.50 GPA. The scholarship is initially awarded in the second semester of college, and can continue to be awarded for four regular semesters at New Mexico Junior College as long as eligibility criteria is maintained. This scholarship may transfer to a participating four-year institution.

The New Mexico Nursing Loan for Service is available to students who are accepted into and enrolled in an accredited nursing program at a public state institution. The student must demonstrate need and agree to work in an under-served area of the state upon completion of the nursing program. A separate application must be completed and submitted to the New Mexico Commission on Higher Education for review.

The New Mexico Vietnam Veterans Scholarship is available to students who are Vietnam Veterans. The student must be certified by the New Mexico Veterans Service Commission. This scholarship will provide tuition, required fees and books for recipients.

The New Mexico Legislative Endowment Scholarship is available to students who demonstrate substantial financial need. Priority is given to returning adult students.
