Corrections Academy Entrance Requirements
- You must be a citizen of the United States and have reached the age of 18 when
you begin the academy.
- You must hold a high school diploma or the equivalent at the time of entry.
- You must hold a valid driver's license and social security card.
- You must have not been convicted or pled guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendere
to any felony charge.
- Must be of good moral character.
- After examination by a licensed physician, be free of any physical condition that
might adversely affect your performance as a correctional officer or prohibit
you from successfully completing a prescribed basic correctional training program
as required by the New Mexico Department of Corrections.
- After examination by a certified psychologist, you must be free of any emotional
or mental condition that might adversely affect your mental performance as a correctional
officer or prohibit you from successfully completing a prescribed basic correctional
officer program as required by the Department of Corrections.
- All applicants must go through a thorough background and criminal history check.
