Corrections Academy Entrance Requirements

  1. You must be a citizen of the United States and have reached the age of 18 when you begin the academy.
  2. You must hold a high school diploma or the equivalent at the time of entry.
  3. You must hold a valid driver's license and social security card.
  4. You must have not been convicted or pled guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge.
  5. Must be of good moral character.
  6. After examination by a licensed physician, be free of any physical condition that might adversely affect your performance as a correctional officer or prohibit you from successfully completing a prescribed basic correctional training program as required by the New Mexico Department of Corrections.
  7. After examination by a certified psychologist, you must be free of any emotional or mental condition that might adversely affect your mental performance as a correctional officer or prohibit you from successfully completing a prescribed basic correctional officer program as required by the Department of Corrections.
  8. All applicants must go through a thorough background and criminal history check.
