Advanced Career Technology (ACT) Academy

The career training received at NMJC provides area high school students with skills and knowledge geared toward an entry-level position in the chosen occupation. Students receive technical information in a classroom situation and the technical knowledge and skills are developed through practical applications in a laboratory/shop. The training facilities and equipment are state-of-the-art for optimal student learning.

Students earn concurrent enrollment credit for courses offered in the ACT Academy.

If the student does not obtain a specified score in one or more of the areas they will be encouraged to receive further counseling.

Orientation – An orientation will be held the first day of the semester to acquaint high school students with New Mexico Junior College rules and regulations.

Attendance – The attendance policy limits students' absences to no more than five (5) per semester. An absence must be excused by a parent calling the ACT Academy office (575.392.6272) within 24 hours of the absence, or with a doctor's note. A large portion of the grade is based on performance in the lab/shop and the student is responsible for any coursework missed while absent.

In an effort to provide a healthy environment for students, employees, and other who may frequent the campus, NMJC prohibits smoking inside any building on the campus. The first violation of NMJC rules will result in a verbal warning; with the second violation the student will be written up and a copy of the warning will be sent to the principal with the instructor's recommendation for discipline. The third violation will result in the student being dismissed from the ACT Academy program.

Campus Security – Campus security officers are on duty to help prevent or correct dangerous situations. The officers represent NMJC in all security matters and have the authority to reasonable carry out their duties. Failure to comply with a security officer request may result in serious student disciplinary action.

Driving on Campus – Students enrolled in ACT Academy are not allowed to drive on the NMJC Campus. If a parent needs to pick up a student from NMJC, he/she must check out the student at the ACT Academy office located in the Don Whitaker Automotive Technology Center.
