The Southeastern New Mexico Corrections Training Academy program is a New Mexico state-approved course of basic training for correction officers. The course of instruction prepares you for correction officer certification by the New Mexico Department of Corrections.
The Academy provides an intensive training program that meets or exceeds all requirements set by the New Mexico Department of Corrections for becoming a correction officer in the State of New Mexico. You may be sponsored by a correction agency or you may be self-sponsored.
Each academy is conducted approximately every 10 weeks. The program consists of 320 hours of instructions (8 weeks) and emphasizes high academic standards. All classes are scheduled to meet for 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Occasionally students may have to attend some evening classes. Cadets will receive 10 NMJC semester credit hours for course work. This work may be applied toward the Associate in Applied Science or the Associate of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice offered at New Mexico Junior College.
