From Dr. August Fons, Dean, Division of Public Safety and Community Services:
Welcome
to New Mexico Junior College and the Division of Public Safety and Community Services. New Mexico
Junior College is committed to providing superior academic and vocational training
for those individuals pursuing careers in public safety. To that end, we offer
academic degree programs in Criminal Justice, Paralegal, and Fire Science. Additionally,
we conduct three state sanctioned training academies for individuals interested
in achieving state certification as law enforcement, corrections, and fire officers.
Each of these training academies is a full-time program structured around state mandated competencies. All instructional areas are taught by experienced and certified personnel, including line officers, supervisors, criminal justice practitioners, and other state certified professional trainers in specialized topical areas. All individuals who successfully complete the academy will receive college credit hours which can be applied to either the Associate in Arts or Associate in Applied Science degree.
There is an increasing national and statewide demand for qualified and well-educated law enforcement and corrections officers. Currently, there are a significant number of entry-level employment opportunities available throughout the nation. I invite you to look through our web site and see what we have to offer.
